June 18, 2010 NEW YORK, NYWilliam Greenblatt, founder and CEO of Sterling Infosystems, named “ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR”University of Maryland Honors Distinguished Alumni Sterling Infosystems, Inc., a leading provider of employment and background screening services, announced today that founder and CEO William Greenblatt was honored last night by the University of Maryland Alumni Association and presented with their 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The event, held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City, was the first of its kind for the Association. Greenblatt founded Sterling in 1975 to provide pre-employment testing. Today, the privately held company is recognized as one of the preeminent providers of employment and background screening services. Sterling handles over 15,000 transactions a day, and provides on-demand, 24/7 screening and report access to more than 7,500 mid-size to Fortune 500 companies around the world. From its headquarters in New York City; Roseville, CA and Mumbai, India; and additional regional offices in Atlanta, Bloomington, Chicago, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Phoenix, San Francisco and Los Angeles; Sterling offers background screening in over 200 countries. The University of Maryland’s Alumni Association created the Entrepreneur of the Year Award as a way to recognize the dynamic entrepreneurs who are building leading businesses in the New York City area. The nominees were chosen based on the evolution and growth of their company, financial performance, and personal commitment. Darren Port, founder of the awards program stated, “From the moment I met Mr. Greenblatt, I was immediately impressed. Aside from his tremendous business success, it is clear that Mr. Greenblatt is a passionate and steadfast leader who has a wonderful rapport with every member of his staff.” A 1979 graduate of the University of Maryland, Greenblatt was joined by several fellow alumni who were also presented with various honors. These were: Harvey Sanders ’72 Jason Finger ’94 Ali Hirsa M.S. ’93, Ph.D. ’98 Avis Richards ’80 Special guests include: Gary Williams ’68 Bonnie Bernstein ‘92 Kris Jenkins ‘01 Albert King 1977-1981 Maryland alumna Joy Bauer ’86, New York Times bestselling author and nutrition expert for the “Today Show”, served as master of ceremonies. |
